Escambia County is celebrating its 200th anniversary. It was one of two counties formed when the U.S. acquired the Florida Territory from Spain. The West Florida Genealogical Society is involved in a research project identifying individuals and families who were here on that historic occasion. Program presented by the society's Past President Virginia Shelby. More info on the anniversary here.

1900: Pensacola Inmate Hung Twice  (Meetings)

One of Pensacola's strangest executions was the day that the authorities had to hang a man twice for murder. Not only did he hang twice but as it turns out he was responsible for building his own scaffolding platform for the hanging. When he was finished with the building he asked if he could use it on another inmate to see if it worked! Presented by Marc Ward.
